Our History

Our History and Legacy

The story of Khema-e-Abbas is one of devotion, perseverance, and continuity across generations and continents.

Our journey began in India, where Khema-e-Abbas was established as a modest Azakhana dedicated to the remembrance of Imam Hussain (A.S.) and the martyrs of Karbala. Through the dedication of its founders and supporters, this sacred gathering place became a center for Majalis and Azadari.

As families migrated and communities grew, the legacy of Khema-e-Abbas continued in Karachi, Pakistan, where it developed into a respected Imambargah known for its commitment to religious programs and community service.

The Historic 8th Muharram Azadari

Among its most distinguished traditions is the historic 8th Muharram Azadari, which has become one of the largest gatherings and Juloos commemorations held on the 8th of Muharram in Karachi. For decades, this event has brought together thousands of mourners united in their love for Imam Hussain (A.S.) and the message of Karbala.

That tradition has never paused. The programs nurtured over those years continue in Karachi to this day, carried on by family who keep the Majalis and Azadari of Khema-e-Abbas alive year after year.

A New Chapter in the United States

Today, Khema-e-Abbas proudly begins a new chapter in the United States. Established to serve the growing community of believers and supporters of Ahlul Bayt (A.S.), this new Imambargah carries forward the same spirit, traditions, and values that have defined Khema-e-Abbas for generations.

As we build for the future, we remain deeply connected to our history, honoring the sacrifices, dedication, and vision of those who came before us while creating new opportunities for worship, learning, service, and community engagement.
